THE HORN OF AFRICA GATEWAY PILOT PROJECT

PROJECT & PARTNERS

HAGAL / XAGAL – SAHIL, SOMALILAND

THE FIRST BUILDING BLOCK OF A LONG-TERM RESOURCE PLATFORM

The Horn of Africa Gateway Pilot Project is the first building block of a long-term platform for developing natural, critical and strategic resources in the Horn of Africa. The project is designed to demonstrate how regional access, European science, international technology and long-term investment can be combined within one transparent structure.

01 · REGIONAL SCREENING

APPROXIMATELY 40% OF THE COUNTRY SCREENED

In an initial nationwide screening phase, approximately 40% of Somaliland's land area was examined using scientific geological, satellite-based and remote-sensing analyses.

In parallel, key available national and international geological and historical exploration information dating back to the 1950s was collected and evaluated.

The historical information was then compared with our new satellite and remote-sensing analyses. The principal geological structures, anomalies and target regions showed a strong degree of alignment.

Screening of approximately 40 percent of the country's land area
Approximately 40% of the country's land area was analysed during the initial geological and satellite-based screening phase.
Strategic potential categories of the project region
The approximately 2,000 km² Hagal / Xagal region forms the first pilot area of the Horn of Africa Gateway Project.

02 · SELECTION OF THE PILOT REGION

THE 2,000 KM² HAGAL / XAGAL PILOT REGION

Based on the nationwide analysis, the Hagal / Xagal region was selected as the first contiguous pilot area.

Project-related use and development rights for a region of approximately 2,000 km² were secured for RedSoil Resources and future project partners.

Further satellite and remote-sensing studies were conducted within this region to define resource potential and priority development areas more precisely.

03 · STRATEGIC POTENTIAL AREAS

SIX STRATEGIC CATEGORIES

01

CRITICAL RAW MATERIALS AND RARE EARTHS

Potential occurrences of lithium, possible rare earths and other strategically relevant raw materials.

02

PRECIOUS METALS

Gold, silver and other precious metals of international economic importance.

03

BASE AND INDUSTRIAL MINERALS

Copper and other metallic or industrial resources.

04

CONSTRUCTION AND INFRASTRUCTURE MATERIALS

Resources for cement production, construction, infrastructure and regional processing.

05

AGRICULTURE AND AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT

Areas with potential for agriculture, land development and complementary regional value creation.

06

ENERGY

Potential energy resources, including oil and gas, that may be investigated in separate projects.

04 · FIRST PILOT PROJECT

GOLD AS THE FIRST PILOT PROJECT

Gold was selected as the priority focus for the first development phase. Gold has a transparent international market, established exploration methods and a clear phased development pathway.

Six areas with particular gold potential were prioritised within the project region.

The initial objective is to validate the gold project technically and economically. Successful development can then provide a foundation for financing and investigating additional resource areas.

Six prioritised gold target areas
Six prioritised gold target areas within the project region form the basis for the next professional exploration phase.

THE NEXT STEP

A PROFESSIONAL AND INVESTMENT-READY EXPLORATION PROGRAMME

The next step is to work with an internationally recognised exploration, geology or engineering company. Together, the existing foundations are to be converted into a professional, investment-ready exploration programme in accordance with international standards. The next phase includes in particular:

  • Independent data review and gap analysis
  • Geological field verification
  • Systematic sampling and laboratory analysis
  • Geochemistry and geophysics
  • Definition of specific exploration and drilling targets
  • Planning and supervision of a drilling programme
  • International QA/QC procedures
  • Preparation of independent resource reporting
  • Environmental and social studies
  • Economic and feasibility studies
  • Preparation for investment readiness
